I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s receiving email requests asking you to share in just a few words, why you’re thankful. So the first one came in, and I ignored it for a while, then felt guilty, but thought, are you kidding me? Have you seen my inbox, heard my voicemails? Talked to my clients who are ticked about their insurance premiums doubling or tripling? I’m tired. Working 13 hour days, and still not done. Thankful? No. Not at the moment. But, I sucked it up and did provide “a few words”. Done. Off my to-do-list.
But then another one comes in with this title: Thankful Sentiments with a Deadline. You’ve got to be kidding me. Do you know what I’m going through over here? I barely have time to use the restroom, much less eat lunch, and you want “just a few words”, in two days? Right.
But then I looked away. Away from the computer, away from the premiums, away from my crazy insurance world.
And then I saw it. The picture of Olivia (my oldest daughter) and her four year old BFF. You see, this sweet little 4 year old has been praying for her BFF, named Olivia, every single night. I’ll take you back to the summer when Olivia agreed to volunteer for Vacation Bible School. She had the 3 & 4 year olds. I remember being proud when I’d go pick her up & watch as she came walking out with little people on both sides of her, holding hands, as ducklings follow their mom. Anna was one of the four-year-olds. Five months she’s been praying for Olivia. When we found out just recently, it not only made Olivia’s day, but as a mom, there are no words. Who knew she was touching the sweet, young lives in ways that lasted for months, perhaps a lifetime? So, I’m thankful, for the compassion & positive influence my daughter has bestowed upon this little girl’s heart.
And then there’s Clairebear (my youngest daughter) who has such a strong love for people. So much so that she’ll take the blame for something she didn’t do, and turn in her iPod if Olivia’s iPhone gets taken away. Her sweetness and unconditional love is unbelievable. Not to mention she’ll let me hug & kiss on her whenever I want, (as long as the lipstick is blotted). I also think she’d catch a grenade for ya.
I’m thankful the good Lord above steps in & picks up the slack, where I’m lacking. I’m pretty sure He’s about worn out.
I’m thankful that my family is healthy.
I’m thankful that my family and friends supported me & believed in me long before I did.
I’m thankful for the people I work with every day.
I’m thankful my brother is still here with us 15 years after an almost fatal accident.
I’m thankful that my mom lives close & doesn’t judge me when I don’t know the answer to my children’s bible questions, & that she does.
I’m thankful that I get to enjoy both the city life & the country life, all in one day.
I’m thankful for a supportive husband who’s also a wonderful father to our children.
I’m thankful that I had the foresight to get out of debt, so money is one thing I don’t have to stress about.
I’m thankful that we don’t have to be a physicist or have the brain of Stephen Hawking to be successful.
I’m thankful I have the ability to travel for pleasure & business, and meet so many amazing people.
I’m thankful that I’m still able to go run sprints at the track, yet be able to walk the next day.
I’m thankful for having the heart of a servant & getting fulfillment from helping someone without being motivated by money.
I’m thankful for colleagues and peers in this industry who are my competitors, but also my friends.
I’m thankful for never burning a bridge.
I’m thankful for my web guy who tolerates my many personalities, and knows I want it yesterday. And even though he tells me he’ll get it done, just not in the next 5 minutes, he gets it done in the next 5 minutes.
I’m thankful for the inbox that over-floweth and the voicemails that keep on a coming, for it can only mean that I have lots of clients and prospects that need my help. #JobSecurity.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. May you find a four year old BFF who prays for you, everyday :-)
